An anal abscess is an infected wound that drains pus from your anus, and an anal fistula is typically a side result of this condition. There’s a chance that the draining abscess will tunnel through your anus to the skin outside. The main signs and symptoms include redness, swelling, and anal pain. The main course of treatment is surgery.
How common is this condition?
One somewhat common anorectal ailment is a fistula. Men and those assigned as male at birth are twice as likely to have it (AMAB). A fistula develops in around half of patients with an infected anal gland. A gland that is diseased and produces an abscess—a pocket of pus that needs to drain—is the cause of 75% of anal fistulas.
Symptoms and Causes
● Anal pain, frequently throbbing and strong. When you cough, poop, or sit, you might feel it more. You might be able to touch your butt.
● redness and swelling (inflammation) in or near your anus. These indicate a live cellulitis infection beneath the skin.
● Fluid dripping from your anus in some area. It could consist of blood (rectal haemorrhage), pus, or faeces. It might be smelling.
What is the appearance of an anal fistula?
A hole in the skin close to your anus is what an anal fistula looks like. Actually, the hole is the outermost section of the tunnel that leads to the internal abscess. It may leak discharge, particularly when you contact the surrounding skin, such as pus, blood, or excrement. While the remainder of the tunnel is still present, some older fistulas may seal at the opening. Up until the fistula reopens to release the drainage, this results in discomfort and swelling.
